A digital adoption plan is still useful after CDAP
A digital adoption plan helps a business make better decisions before it spends money on software, AI tools, cloud infrastructure, training, automation, or consultants. CDAP was one funding pathway. The planning discipline is still valuable because most SMEs still face the same problem: too many tools, unclear priorities, and limited time to implement.
The plan should clarify the workflow, the customer or staff problem, the systems involved, the data that must be cleaned or connected, and the business result expected from the project. Without that clarity, a business can buy software and still keep the same bottleneck.
When the plan is worth doing
A plan is useful when the company has multiple possible directions and needs to choose. For example, the decision may be whether to improve CRM follow-up, automate intake, connect inventory and accounting, introduce AI support for documents, upgrade cybersecurity, or prepare a cloud migration. The plan turns these ideas into an ordered implementation path.
The plan is also useful when funding or financing may be involved. Programs and lenders usually need a clear business case, budget, implementation timeline, supplier scope, and expected impact. A practical plan helps compare DMAP/TDP, BDC LIFT readiness, SR&ED evidence, cloud credits, training budgets, or a self-funded sprint.
What the plan should include
- The workflow being improved and the people affected by it.
- The systems, data sources, documents, and integrations involved.
- The approval, privacy, cybersecurity, and governance requirements.
- The budget range, supplier roles, internal owner, and adoption plan.
- The metric that will prove the project worked.
How Digid helps
Digid helps Canadian SMEs turn digital and AI ideas into a clear project brief. We assess the workflow, identify the right support path, define the implementation scope, and help the team decide whether the next step is an assessment, a funding-ready plan, a vendor build, staff training, or a managed AI operations path.
